Tooth Extraction, Bowie MD

While Dental Tooth Extraction is not usually the first option for treating dental disorders, sometimes a tooth may need to be removed.

Why would I need a tooth extraction?

Following are some of the reasons why a tooth may need to be extracted include
  • Significant decay or damage (injury) to the tooth
  • Gum disease
  • To improve appearance, such as with orthodontic treatment
  • Extensive tooth cracks
  • Poor positioning or functionality

Extractions - Having a Tooth Removed

An Extraction (Tooth Removal) means to have a tooth removed, usually because of disease, trauma or crowding.

If you need an extraction, your dentist will first numb the area to lessen any discomfort. After the tooth extraction, your dentist will advise you of what post extraction regimen (program or plan) to follow. In most tooth removal cases a small amount of bleeding is normal. Your mouth will slowly fill gap in the bone where the tooth root was through the formation of a blood clot.

Tooth Extraction - Simple Steps To Better Dental Health

We have listed below some tips to follow to make recovery easier:

Things to Avoid After Tooth Extraction

  • Avoid things that may dislodge the blood clot, delay or prevent normal healing.
  • Do not smoke and vigorously rinse your mouth or spit, engage in strenuous activities, or drink through a straw for few days(2 days) after an extraction.
  • Follow the diet your dentist suggests and stay away from hot liquids (Tea, Coffee etc), foods that are crunchy or contain seeds or small grains, and carbonated soft drinks
  • For the first few days, if you should rinse, rinse your mouth gently. If you experience swelling, apply a ice bag or an cold cloth and call your dentist right away. And ask your dentist about pain medication. You can brush and floss the opposite or other teeth as usual. But don not clean the teeth next to where the tooth was removed.

Don't forget, when having a dental extraction, today's modern procedures and follow up care (as recommended by your dentist) are there for your benefit and comfort.

When it comes to dental procedures, tooth extraction — or having teeth "pulled" — is among patients' most dreaded (fearsome) prospects. It is also referred to as 'Exodontia', tooth extraction involves removing a tooth from its socket in the jaw bone. Before your dentist considers tooth extraction, every effort will be made to try to repair and restore your tooth. However, generally a tooth extraction is necessary. Reasons for Tooth Extraction

There are several reasons for extracting or removal a tooth. These include:
  • Severe Tooth Damage/Trauma
  • Malpositioned/Nonfunctioning Teeth
  • Orthodontic Treatment
  • Extra Teeth
  • Radiation
  • Chemotherapy
  • Organ Transplant

Teeth Extraction Services can be provided if the dentist determines certain teeth are beyond restorative care. Extraction services will be performed after an X-ray has been taken and the dentist evaluates your clinical needs. A separate fee is needed for an X-ray (Take benefit of our Current Dental Promotions and Offers) .

Tooth extractions can be done on a same-day basis in most client cases. 'EMERGENCY EXTRACTION' dental services may also be available the same day.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction, Bowie MD

Wisdom teeth are your third molars (back teeth) that grow in last—when you are in your late teens or early twenties. However, there is often not enough room in the mouth for them to fit properly. If wisdom tooth don't have the room they need, they can push against and eventually damage other tooth. To prevent this, wisdom teeth are often removed—even before they start to cause pain. Your oral surgeon(doctor) can tell from an x-ray picture whether or not your wisdom teeth need to come out.
